Concept cars



Design studies involve the materialisation of our designers’ ideas concerning the future forms and functions of ŠKODA automobiles. They show the direction which the ŠKODA brand’s design language will take and also how its typical visual elements will look in their future generations.

The two latest ŠKODA concepts, VisionD and MissionL, indicate the form our vehicles will take in the near future and present the new design language, which places an emphasis on simple, sharply cut lines and elegant shapes. At the same time, the traditional design elements of the ŠKODA brand are also developed and our long-term efforts aimed at offering simple yet clever solutions in the spirit of the motto “Simply Clever” are continued.
 

Where the concepts are born


The modern building of the ŠKODA AUTO Construction Centre with its non-traditional design is the place where all the brand’s concept cars and mass produced models are created. It is the birthplace of studies indicating the future development of the ŠKODA brand’s design language (such as VisionD and MissionL), special versions of mass produced vehicles such as the Citigo Rally and Citigo DJ Car and automobiles which test the road to the future of automobile transport such as the Octavia Green E Line electric concept car. ​

The professional team of designers, engineers and experts from many specialist fields works on ensuring that ŠKODA vehicles fulfil all of the requirements of their future owners and that they are a real pleasure to drive. 

The development departments start working on the first concept sketches long before a new model is designed. The entire vehicle concept is prepared for further detailed processing after the designs have been prepared based on the concern’s platform. Studies and comparative analyses of competitors’ vehicles take place simultaneously with the development of the platform in order to define the optimal external and internal dimensions of the vehicle. The results of the analyses are then transferred to data files called “packages” which are used to produce “clay” models.
 
Whereas some of the designers work on the shape of the bodywork and the harmonisation of aesthetics with cutting edge aerodynamics and the strict requirements for practicality, the team of interior experts dedicates itself to ensuring that the vehicle’s cabin delivers a pleasant impression and, at the same time, offers advanced ergonomics and sufficient space. Moreover, all of this must be harmonised with the brand’s design language and philosophy so that the new ŠKODA model offers all the qualities which our customers are used to.
