Traffic Safety Research

The development of safe vehicles and individual safety components is a constant and demanding process. And, despite the fact that computer modelling and laboratory impact tests provide a lot of valuable information, nothing can replace information from the real world.

ŠKODA AUTO therefore began a project aimed at research into the behaviour of vehicles during real traffic accidents at the beginning of 2008.

The traffic safety research team is ready to attend traffic accidents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and it is often called out up to three times a day.

One of the fundamental results of this research is the awareness that, despite the fact that ŠKODA vehicles are able to protect passengers even during serious accidents, vehicle passengers themselves often reduce or completely negate the effects of the safety components by means of their own mistakes. Typical examples include poorly selected car seats for children, the failure to use safety belts or the failure to secure transported items.

The traffic accident research team therefore participates at educational events which teach safe behaviour in vehicles. The team attends events aimed at prevention and participates in exercises conducted by firefighters from across the entire Czech Republic. The team also creates unique films of crash tests and cooperates in the PLAYFUL ŠKODA multimedia application.
